Diabetes has become a major problem for Americans. According to the American Diabetes Association: "There are 20.8 million people in the United States, or 7% of the population, who have diabetes. There are two types of diabetes, type I and type II. Type II is the more common, and is the third leading killer of people within the United States. Controlling type II diabetes is not easy. A proper diet and exercise is important (weight control is key), however, fitness is only part of the solution. If you have type I or type II diabetes please consult a doctor about diabetes medications or diabetes supplements. Your glucose and insulin levels need to be controlled and this is best accomplished through medication and the use of tools like insulin pumps or blood glucose monitors.

Type I Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use sugar. Sugar is the basic fuel for the cells in the body, and insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells.
The most common form of Diabetes is type 2. In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use sugar. Sugar is the basic fuel for the cells in the body, and insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can cause two problems; either your cells may immediately become starved for energy or, overtime high glucose levels could hurt a variety of your organs, including your eyes and kidneys.
Pre-diabetes is a serious medical condition that can be treated, and should be treated as soon as possible. The good news is that the recently completed American Diabetes Association Diabetes Prevention Program study conclusively showed that people with pre-diabetes can prevent the development of type 2 diabetes by making changes in their diet and increasing their level of physical activity. They may even be able to return their blood glucose levels to the normal range.
According to The ADA: "While the DPP also showed that some medications may delay the development of diabetes, diet and exercise worked better. Just 30 minutes a day of moderate physical activity, coupled with a 5-10% reduction in body weight, produced a 58% reduction in diabetes."Type II Diabetes
