HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
Typical home improvement projects and why you may want to take on one or more of them
Painting or wallpapering walls, adding new carpets, wood floors or linoleum, kitchen or bathroom remodeling, adding a room or rooms to your home, or a new roof! These are just a few of the home improvement projects that most people take on at least once in their life. Whether it's to make necessary repairs, add to the resale value of your home, or for pure enjoyment of your living space, you may find yourself getting involved in some sort of home improvement project. If you haven't painted in years, if your carpet or linoleum is worn out, if you have plumbing or wiring problems or a leaky roof--these problems can make your home less liveable and should be taken care of as soon as possible. And should you be planning to sell your home, your resale value and potential for selling is greatly increased if your home repairs have been taken care of.

Common Home Improvement Projects and Reasons For Doing Them
There are many reasons for improving one's living space. Simply making repairs to some imperfections is one of the major reasons for home improvement projects. People will often take on remodeling or improvement projects to increase the value of their home if they are planning on selling it soon. Still others feel that remodeling and turning their home into something closer to their "dream home" is cheaper than buying another one, and for this reason alone they will undertake to improve their home. Whatever the reason, think carefully before beginning. For instance, if you plan to sell your home in the next few years, you'll get the best value for your improvement dollars in a kitchen or bathroom remodel, but very little if you decide to add a swimming pool or fish pond. These projects are valuable if you are looking for a better lifestyle or more enjoyment for yourself and family.
Do It Yourself, or Contract It Out?
Before proceeding, you'll need to decide if you want to do most of the work yourself, or hire it done. If time or lack of skills are factors, you may be better off hiring the work done. However, if you have plenty of time, like to do this type of work yourself and have the skills to do so, by all means, do it yourself. There are many resources, whichever route you choose to go. Online help is a mouse-click away. A trip or two to your local home improvement store is also informative. For those who want to do it themselves, both Lowe's and Home Depot offer clinics on many home improvement projects. You'll get plenty of ideas when you visit these stores, whether you do it yourself or contract the work out. Good luck with your project!
