Upright Vacuum Cleaner Features
An upright vacuum cleaner works especially well on carpeted floors. They are fairly easy to maneuver and can do a great job of picking up debris from your carpets. Some models will also work on hard floors such as hardwood, tile or vinyl, so don't think that you are limited only to cleaning carpets with your new upright. Uprights are usually a little cheaper than canister types, and they are generally easier to store than canister types. They are very maneuverable as well. You can get your upright vacuum with a choice of these features:
Bag or bagless. We're all probably familiar with the disposable bags usually found in older upright vacuum cleaners. Today, you can still find some cleaners which use these bags, but you will find most of them do not use bags. Instead, the bags have been replaced by a cylinder which is easily removed and emptied. No more running out of vacuum cleaner bags or misplacing them, if you decide on one of these models.
Filters are available in some models, but this usually makes them more expensive than the others. However, if there are members of your family with allergies to animal dander or dust, you may find vacuum cleaners with filters to be well worth the money. Filter types include micron and HEPA. The HEPA are more expensive, but more efficient.
Attachments are available on some models. One of the drawbacks of the standard upright vacuum is that they are useless if you want to vacuum your drapes or furniture. But many upright vacuum cleaners also come with hoses and attachments so that you can clean these items and not have to decide if you want to give up the cleaning power of an upright for the versatility of a canister.
Power of your vacuum cleaner is important in the cleaning process. Vacuuming power is measured in amps, the average range is from 3.6 to 12; the higher the rating the more sucking power your vacuum will have. The cost is more for the higher amps, but again you may find it worth the extra money for the extra cleaning power.
