Finding the Right Jewelry at the Right Price
Tips and tricks to make your jewelry buying easier
|
Finding the right wholesale jewelry can be tough. The first thing to do is to narrow down your search. What are you looking for? Are you looking for silver jewelry, body jewelry, men's rings or just standard set of earrings, necklaces and pennants? There are even different kinds of silver jewelry that range from sterling silver jewelry, to gemstone embedded jewelry. Once you have determined the type of jewelry you are looking for, the next task is to find the best jewelry at the best price. Finding quality discount jewelry can be tough. Just remember to keep a sharp eye, and maintain a high level of patience. It is unlikely that you are going to find the right pair of earrings the first time (and most store clerks deal with nasty customers all day). Whatever jewelry you choose, remember that you don't always get what you pay for, so be careful.

Tips for Finding Quality Jewelry
Buy from someone that you know. Buying from a friend is not only easier but, the situation itself has a lot more credibility. Someone that you know and trust will almost always give you a better deal, and won't sell you bad product, because they have to see you in again in a social setting.
Ask about the quality mark or the trademark. With gold jewelry, the karat mark or quality mark indicates the purity of the piece: "14K" means 58.3% pure gold; "18K," 75% pure. In other words, in a piece of 14k gold jewelry, 14 of its 24 parts are pure gold; the other 10 are alloy, which could be any number of different metals, added for strength and sometimes to change the color (to rose gold, white gold, etc.)
When buying gemstones always ask about the treatment of the stone. Treatments like heating are industry standard but should be disclosed to the buyer so as to realize the steps need to care for the stone.
Jewelry has always been used as tokens of love and affection; and as long as jewels have existed so have fakes. True gemstones and pearls originated from the east and were bought chiefly by the Italians. These Italian merchants then sold the goods on in Europe. Good glass imitations were often used and sometimes with intent as in royal funerary robes and children's jewelry.
Precious gemstones were prized less than flawless, round, natural, and large white pearls. The finest of pearls were provided by South India and the Persian Gulf. The Italians, particularly the Venetians and people from Murano, could make imitation glass gems and pearls that were very good likenesses of the real jewels. Recipes for false pearls existed in 1300 when white powdered glass mixed with albumen (egg white) and snail slime, produced beads that were used as imitation pearls.
Some cultures have a practice of keeping large amounts of wealth stored in the form of jewelery.History of Jewelry
